The Maria Project — Why It Was Created

The Maria Project was created from a need to turn survival into something meaningful. Across three albums and 44 original songs, I tell the story of grief, motherhood, cultural identity and pride, love, loss, and finding myself again after leaving a long controlling and abusive marriage.

Born and raised in the Bronx and proudly Dominican and Puerto Rican, I wanted my music to carry not only my experiences, but the resilience, rhythm, language and strength of where I come from.

At the heart of the project is “I Am Maria (Yo Soy Maria).” There are countless songs about a woman named Maria—songs describing who she is, what she means, or how someone else sees her. I wanted to create an answer to all of them. This time, Maria speaks for herself.

“I Am Maria” says: I am a mother. I am a daughter. I am a survivor. I am starting over. I am still here.

The larger project stands against domestic violence, abuse, racism and LGBTQ+ discrimination while creating a space for people who have felt controlled, silenced, different or afraid to start again.

Ultimately, The Maria Project is about taking ownership of your story. What happened to you does not get to write the ending. Your age doesn’t write it. Your past doesn’t write it. Other people’s expectations don’t write it.

I Am Maria (Yo Soy Maria) is a bilingual identity anthem rooted in the Bronx and shaped by Dominican and Puerto Rican heritage. It begins with one woman's story but reaches toward something universal: the Marias who raised families, carried cultures, survived, sacrificed, rebuilt and discovered that becoming yourself has no expiration date.

morrigan69official is an independent Bronx singer-songwriter whose music blends cinematic Latin pop, rock, punk and urban soul with bilingual storytelling rooted in Dominican and Puerto Rican culture.

Her music explores survival, motherhood, identity, family, independence, self-respect and reinvention—not from the perspective of someone beginning life, but of a woman discovering there are still entirely new chapters to write.

In 2026, morrigan69official released three original albums totaling 44 songs: Bad Influence! (That's Your Fault!), Se Te Fue La Mejor (Mi Paz, Mi Voz) and Built Different (Bronx To Queens).

Created independently, the catalog has begun traveling far beyond New York, generating more than 44,230 documented plays on Audiomack alone and reaching listeners across at least 75 countries and territoriesthrough combined platform reporting.

Her work has also begun receiving independent music-media recognition, including features from BuzzSlayers and This Is The Scene, alongside industry discovery and chart signals through platforms including Chartmetric and Groover.
